Configuring Grade Logic

FlightPath uses built in "grade logic" to decide, for example, if a student has failed a course, and needs to retake it.

It also keeps up with what grades are "better" than other grades, for use in making sure that minimum grade requirements are fulfilled (and, in a future release, prereqs have been fulfilled).

These values can be configured on either the System Settings page, or the Configure School Data pages of the Admin Console.

Some examples:

  • Retake Grades (CSV)
    • A list of grades, separated by commas.  If the student has earned any of these grades, the course will show up in red, and not be used to "fill in" the degree plan.  For example, if the student earned an F or a W, because they failed or withdrew.  Ex:  F, W, I
  • Enrolled Grades (CSV)
    • Similar to the retake grades, this is a list of grades which means the student is currently "enrolled" in the course.  The course will show up in green, and will not be used in GPA calculations.  Examples might be midterm grades.  You should also assign an arbitrary grade, upon course import, to represent an enrolled course if you do not have one already.  For example, the Banner Integration module uses the pseudo-grade "E" by default, but it can be any grade code you want. Ex: "EN" or "Y" or "Z", etc.
  • B or Better Grades (CSV)
    • These are a list of grades, which, if the student earned in a course, then the course is either a "B" or better than a "B".  This, and similar settings, are for determining if the student has fulfilled a minimum grade requirement on a group or course requirement.
  • Ignore Courses From Hour Counts (CSV)
    • This is a list of courses (SUBJ NUM), whose hours should be ignored from any hour or GPA calculations.  For example, remedial courses.  Ex:  UNIV 101, ENGL 090
