Configuring Course Repeat Policy

FlightPath is able to handle repeated courses in different ways, as set by the "Course repeat policy" setting on the "Configure school data" form:

"Most recent, exclude previous attempts"

The default method is "most recent, exclude previous attempts." What this means is for normal courses (whose repeat hours are the same as their minimum hours-- meaning, not normally repeated courses), if a student takes this course more than once, only the most recent attempt will be used by FlightPath, and previous attempts will be ignored and placed into "Excess Credits." Previous attempts can still be used for substitutions, however.

So, for example, if a student takes ART 1001 and makes a B, then re-takes ART 1001 and makes a C, the "C" grade will be used. To continue this example, if a student takes ART 1001 and makes a B, then re-takes ART 1001 and makes an F, then neither attempt will be used by FlightPath, since the most recent attempt was a failure. Again, though, the previous attempt can still be used in substitutions. This is the most typical course repeat policy for universities.

"Most recent, do not exclude previous attempts"

This method will prefer the most recent attempt at a course, but it will not exclude previous attempts.  What this means, using the example listed above, is that if a student took ART 1001 and made a B, then re-takes it and makes an F, the "F" grade will be skipped over and FlightPath will use the "B" course.

This policy is not as common on university campuses.
