Reporting capabilities?

I may have missed it, but is there any reporting capabilities from this? Would we be able to pull reports on say, all of the Art degree students for example?

Hello,

Yes, FlightPath has some basic reporting capabilities in the "Stats" module. It ships with FlightPath, but it isn't enabled by default. If you go to the admin section, then modules, you should be able to enable it.

When you do, a new link will appear (for privileged users) on the Main tab to access it.

Right now, the only reports available are the (somewhat basic) ones we use most often at ULM, However, if you have an idea for another type of report, please post it here-- if it's possible, I'd be happy to add it, if it makes it more useful to the community.

If it helps, here are the basic reports (at the time of this writing) that come with the Stats module by default:

- Access stats - see recent activity in the system.
- Major counts - Display the number of students within each major/concentration
- Selected degree options - Display which degree options are being selected for majors that support them
- Advisor use - How many students has an advisor advised over a specified time period
- Student course list - See a list of courses a student has taken, as FlightPath interprets them
- FlightPath use summary - A more detailed report on how FlightPath is being used over a specified time period.

As I said, these are the default reports. At ULM, we have modified this module to include a handful of other reports which our advisors requested, but are too specific to ULM's set up for me to include in the public module.

If you describe what you are looking for when you say a "report on ART students" I might be able to tell you how hard it would be for me to include that in a public module release. If it's fairly generic, it might be easy, but if its very specific to your school's setup, then it would need to be something your for your IT team to write custom.

Thanks for the quick reply! What type of reporting specifically can it already do? We are looking to get a report of each of our students (there are about 100 students) and where they are in their specific plans.

I see, so you mean like a report of students, and what percent progresses they have on their degrees, GPAs, etc?

Hmm-- that's a COOL idea! FlightPath can't do that just yet, but I don't think it'd be too hard to do.

I could definitely see the report taking a long time to run, but I suppose that probably doesn't matter. Selecting a major and other criteria first would be required.

Typically the reports show up in the web browser, but I could see the usefulness of this being a CSV as well.

I will see what I can do and get back to you.

Richard
PS: (If I misunderstood what you were looking for, please let me know ;)

I think I just sent that reply just after you sent the more detailed answer :)
But yes, we are looking to get a report on where each student is in their specific track. We have a lot of different tracks, so maybe a report just showing for example how many electives they have taken, how many required courses they've taken, etc....
Thank you!

No problem. I will post back here when I have something ready to download.

BTW, if you think of any other ideas for how FlightPath might be improved, please feel free to submit an "issue" on the Issues page for FlightPath, here:
http://getflightpath.com/node/9/issues

Each module page has their own issue queue too.

Thanks,
Richard

Yes that's pretty much it! Our issue is that we have a lot of different options for students (as far as what degree plan they are on) and so I'm sure we would have to build that in somehow prior, especially so advisors/students could run individual reports. But we also have faculty that want to be able to plan ahead with what courses to offer each semester, so by seeing what students have already taken it might help them.

Thanks for your responses and help! This looks like a really helpful program for sure

Sure thing-- it sounds like you may not have used FlightPath much already.

If that's the case, I'd just like to point out, that on an individual basis, an advisor can pull up a single student and see a graphical representation of where they are at-- what courses they took, what is left (and in what semester), their GPA, grades per course, etc. They then use the system to advise students which courses to take, even several semesters into the future, and the advising selections are saved so the student can log in later and remember what they were told to take.

That's the core functionality of FlightPath.

You may already be perfectly aware of this! I just wanted to make sure, just in case.

Richard

Hello,

I just wanted to give a quick update-- the latest version of FlightPath (4.6) now has an extra report on the Stats page which will generate a CSV export report, detailing the percentages of completion and GPAs for students in a selected major.

At the time of this writing it should be considered in "Beta", as I haven't had much time to test it at my school, but it appears to be accurate. If anyone tries it out and has trouble, please open an Issue on the FlightPath project page, or post here.

Thanks!
Richard
