Groups allowing courses worth more credits than the group requirement

How can I make a way for course groups to allow advisers to select courses worth more credits than the group requirement? This is a common requirement for us. Currently, if a group only requires two credits in a degree, the four credit courses are greyed out and not selectable in the popup window.

Hmmmm. Yes, that's true, FP performs a lot of math based around course hours and how they "fit" into groups.

There is no way presently to directly do it, but I can think of some work-arounds:

#1 - you could just have advisors add those courses using the "Courses added by advisors" block. They wouldn't fit into the group, but the advisors would know, when they see it greyed out, to perform that action.

#2 - you could give the courses variable hours, ex: 1-4 hours. They should then be selectable at a lower hour, but when the student actually takes the course, it will be worth whatever they were awarded.

#3 - change the group requirement to have the higher number of hours, so that the courses can be selected. It may not be what's in your course catalog, but you can also have a "public note" on your degrees that do this, explaining the situation.

Again, these are sort of "cheats", to get around the behavior of FlightPath. It would just be up to the advisors to understand what to do in these situations.

Actually, there's one more option:

#4 - Change the courses to be worth 2 hours instead of 4, but state in the description that they are ACTUALLY worth 4 hours, it's just a limitation of the software. When the student takes the course and is awarded 4 hours, it will display correctly that they earned 4 hours. It will no longer fit into the group, but it would be accurate, once they take the course.

One more comment--

Once a student actually takes the course, and earns 4 hours, you can then substitute and "split" the course into 2-2hour chunks. You can place 2 hours into the group, satisfying the requirement, and the remaining 2 hour chunk will go into Excess Credits, and can be used in another group if you like.

Thanks for the ideas. #3 may be a possibility for us.
